    The navigator Louis de Bougainville (1729-1811) gave his name to this genus. Originally from tropical and subtropical America. Popularly known as the "Paper Flower". Very delicate deep pink flowers that look like paper, hence the name "Paper Flower". Actually, the flowers are bracts of leaves at the tip of the stems that turn brilliant pink in color.     The Azalea is a member of the genus Rhododendron. It is an evergreen that flowers abundently in spring with deep red flowers that remain on the tree for weeks. Great bonsai show piece.     Native to Guyana, Mexico, Honduras and Brazil. Named for the massive crimson pink puffy blooms in spring and summer. Forms rasberry-like buds which indicate the profusion of color to follow. The leaves fold up as the sun starts heading down. Can bloom year round if given southern sun.

    The Jasmine is a bushy vine which we have trained into tree form. It has shiny dark leaves and fragrant white flowers. The waxy snow white flowers are about 1" across, borne in clusters of 3-12 and intensely fragrant. They fade to pink as they age. The White Jasmine blooms throughout the summer and almost continuously in warm climates. Great indoor bonsai.

    This tiny yellow macro mini rose is a bloom machine in miniature growing only to 9" tall. It has light green tiny leaves with a compact uniform growth habit. This disease resistant variety produces well shaped blooms up to 1/2" diameter. It has a delicate yellow color, with soft petals. Their color softens just before petal drop as the tree readies itself for another flush of blooms. It flowers profusely from spring through early fall. Keep outdoors and protect in winter.

    Also known as sacred bamboo and is related to the barberry. This tough as nails evergreen has fine lacy foliage which turns bronze and red in winter. It has unbranched reed-like stems. In spring new foliage appears as bright bronze red and is soon followed by large creamy white flowers. In summer clusters of bright green berries appear and by late summer, the berries ripen to a bright red. Does well indoors. Provide sun to get intense coloring of foliage.

    Open and airy conifer (cone bearing) with light green foliage turning darker with age. One of the best known trees from the South Pacific. Will tolerate warm temperatures and does not even object to dryness, although it does not like glaring sunshine.     Also known as Mexicana Ficus. Elongated, light green leaves have a striking resemblance to the popular Weeping Willow tree. Our tree is grown with the roots growing over a large textured rock and then down into the soil. This tree does particularly well indoors.

    Native to China and Korea and long known in Japan where it is highly valued. Prunus Mume produces beautiful, delicate flowers over many weeks in late winter and early spring when we need them most. The flowers are white and pink and have a rich spicy sweet fragrance. Prunus Mume blooms on the previous years wood, the buds being set during the growing season of the year before, so be careful when pruning not to remove all the flower buds.

    Native to St. Croix, Trinidad and Curacao. The name Malpighia is used to honor Marcello Malpighia (1628-1693). He was a distinguished naturalist in Bologna, Italy. The natural form of the Barbados Cherry is Pendulous with weeping twigs and branches. The flowers are rose-pink, often several together in a cyme. Its fruit is small and inedible. It has a weeping growth habit if the branches are allowed to elongate. The round inedible fruits are borne singly or in 2's or 3's and are bright red with glossy skin. The fruit is very juicy and extremely high in ascorbic acid. Great indoor bonsai.

    relative of the "roseo-picta" cultivars. The Snowbush or Snow-on-the-Mountain as it is commonly called is accented by its leaf size and color, which vary depending on lighting conditions. In moderate light it will produce larger leaves with some white color and a more sparse form. Grown in some sun it will produce smaller leaves, a more dense and compact form, and will have significantly more white and pink in the new and older growth. Easy to care for indoors.
